Y llegó el BlogDay2007

The BlogDay 2007 is here, and, as it corresponds, here’s the 5 blogs I’ve decided to post because of their content, relevance and personal preference.

1. Computer Love (http://www.cpluv.com).

My favorite blog when it comes to design, tendencies and inspiration by tons.

Founded by Cristophe Martin, today ComputerLove houses among its functions a creative net where you can look for work and meet pepole from practically every corner of the world, plus the option to create your own account and portfolio to show the rest what you do; all of this added to its main function: the blog that day after day brings us links to designers, agencies, documentaries, jobs, etc.

Very good contents, dynamic, and easy to use with a clean and very friendly interface.

Definnitely my number one choice.

2. ArtSkills (http://www.artskills.net).

Founded by Thomas Gayet, who also happens to be the mind behind excelente sites such as Amkashop and MyVynil, ArtSkills is an excellent french blog about graphic design, photography, illustration, graffiti and much more.

Amazing contents and kick-ass artists on every post.

3. NiceToMeetYou (http://www.ntmy.org).

NiceToMeetYou, founded by Andreas Pihlström, David Cambou and Ravi Vasavan, is just as its authors say a community for creative people to join and interact, creating webs of knowledge and graphic collaborations of prime quality.

Merged in its brginings with the also great French’N'Fresh, NTMY is an excellent showcase for any firm or visual artist looking for a place where to be received and apreciated for his talent.

4. The Serif (http://www.theserif.net).

An excellent space dedicated exclusivelly to good design.

With massive updates every day (10 posts) and excellent iniciatives such as Redesigners, where an iconic element of design is submitted and re-designed by the blog readers; or the Serif Directory, to which on a daily basis new design agencies from all over the world are added looking to create a grand information net of design in a single place.

Definitelly a great visual resource when it comes to inspiration.

5. FayerWayer (http://www.fayerwayer.com).

When it comes to technology, FayerWayer is first on my list.

Created by the master Leo Prieto and with a series of trully interesting posts about the latest tendencies in the worlds of the microchip sciences, this blog has managed to position itself in Latinamerica as the most visited website in its area.

Also, the website has a forum on which some pretty interesting debates and discussions come to the table about the most diverse topics happening nowadays in the world of technology.

And well, it’s oh-so-much-better also if it’s a chilean website. Makes one want to at least try to put together something of such quality.

Well, there you have it. Those are the 5 blogs I believe should be mentioned for everything they’re accomplishing day after day in this enormous world we call the internet.

Clearly I’ve left many blogs aside, so to not leave anyone behind, here’s a few I think really set the bar high and deserve to be mentioned:

InconcienteColectivo.
ColorMagenta.
Evasée.
El50.
Digilicious.
WebIntenta.
FreelanceSwitch.

Coca-Cola Remix

Coca-Cola Remix is an awesome project through which an enormous amount of the hottest artists around the world were asked to reinterprate the now “classic” image of the Coke bottle with several elements popping out of it.

There are some awesome pieces, plus there’s an online editor where you can make your own.

Also check out the official flickr where most of the pieces are.

Excellent.

Cambios en el servidor, otra vez

If you entered my website today, it’s most likely that you weren’t able to see it or weren’t able to view it the right way.

That’s why I wanted to apologize to everyone for the problems, hopefully I didn’t lose that much traffic (given that the traffic itself isn’t that big).

Let’s hope that the server now runs smoothly like… something smooth.

Uso de aparatos electrónicos afecta la calidad del sueño

The New York Times recently published this article on which scientists from the University of Osaka, Japan discovered that people who use their computer o watch TV before going to sleep, sleep worse than those who don’t.

According to Dr. Nakamori Suganuma, the use of electronic media such as the internet, evidences that the longer its use prior to sleep, the stronger will the lack of sleep sensation be.

However, this doesn’t mean that those who use the PC o watch television before sleeping actually sleep less; but they do feel they’ve slept worse, which translates to the sensation of exhaustion during the day and a diminish on daily capacities.

The study evidences that, although the use of electronic media prior to sleep doesn’t have major effects on actual sleeping time, it may however have a more significant impact on the “sleep demand and quiality of sleep”, explains Suganuma.

Of course, I’d always suspected it. In fact my grandmother always told me you should disconnect your brain before you go to sleep. Who would’ve thought she was right.

Sitios web de una sola página

Within the few times I’ve given it a try on web design, I can say from experience that it is complicated. No matter how simple a website may look, there will always be a previous development and several versions prior to what we see on our screen.

For this, I’ve always been an admirer of good website design and how these manage to distribute its content all around.

The thing is that yesterday, checking the relativelly new Design Float, I came across FullSingle.com; a website dedicated not only to good web design, but to good design for websites made on a single page.

Websites with deployable menus, javascript, AJAX, etc. The thing is that you’ll never see any sub-pages load on any of these websites. Everything on your screen at once.

A pretty interesting resource when it comes to finding out how to save space.

Oblongo Magazine

Some time ago I was contacted by Pablo Coatts who told me he was interested in releasing an on-line magazine that showed the work of different artists from Chile to reveal some sort of national graphics.

I was invited to participate and without thinking twice I joined the project with a modest and simple collaboration. My little grain of sand.

Today I found out with great enthusiasm that issue 0 of Oblongo Magazine has been released.

With support of several cool groups such as Inconciente Colectivo and Crann Magazine, Oblongo is without a doubt a project with a grand future and I’m really proud to have participated in it’s first issue.

Check it out ’cause it’s hot.

Nuevo modo de escalar una imagen

I saw this a couple of days ago but I never finished watching it Now the guys at FayerWayer posted the link to the video on Youtube. Now I did watch it, and it really is incredible.

A new way of scaling images. If this was to go public it could really open many doors in digital manipulation field.
